Redecorating Your Home

There are many cheap and effective small home improvements you can make to modernise and refresh the overall look and feel of your home, and many of these are easy to do yourself without having to call in professional workman.

Redecorating is a simple and cost effective ways to start modernising your home, and just the simple additions of a fresh coat of paint or some new wallpaper can brighten up a room and change the whole feel and ambience.

Practical Considerations
Before redecorating you will need to make sure you have all of the necessary equipment for the job from paint brushes through to pasting tables, as the right tools are a vital part of doing a good job and certainly make things a lot easer once you get started. It is a good idea to completely empty the room you are redecorating, and take the time to remove any existing wall paper, and smooth and clean the walls and paint work before you start.

Think carefully about what type of room you are redecorating, and what paint/wallpaper will be suitable. Rooms and hallways that see heavy usage can benefit from scuff resistant paints that can be easily wiped down, and there are special mould resistant paints and wallpapers ranges available for bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms.

If you are buying wallpaper remember to measure the room carefully so that you know how many rolls you will need, and always make sure you have rolls with the same batch number, as different batches in the same colour/pattern can have slight colour variations that will look very noticeable once you have put it on the walls.

There are many other small improvements you can carry out to modernise your home on a budget. You can freshen up existing rooms with new lampshades, cushions, curtains and rugs, and you can improve the sense of space by ensuring clutter is kept tidied away in storage cupboards. The outside of the property can benefit from a fresh coat of paint on gutters, fascias and downpipes, and if you have a front garden or driveway, make sure these are kept tidy and free from clutter. :)
