In the kitchen area, a special layer is applied to make the floor waterproof by sealing it. This layer of coating is called lacquered and unlike other coatings such as oil that goes into the wood, lacquered will always sit on top thereby protecting the floor. From time to time you will need to top up the coating, a process that takes just a few minutes.
